Sustainable Manufacture
Sustainable Construction starts with how we source our manufacturing materials. The core of our panels is wood and all our wood products are all ethically sourced. FSC® Certification is available on the timber element of our panels. Our CNC Machine can be used to make cut outs prior to the panels reaching site to reduce site waste.
General waste that includes steel, paper, plastic and polyester are sorted and segregated. These products are either recycled or used in the Biofuel industry for creating energy. Bathgate Flooring do not send any waste to landfill in the manufacture of our panels.
All sawdust produced in the manufacturing process is passed directly through to our Biomass Burner and used for heating in the factory.
Sustainability in the Office.
Bathgate Flooring Offices are fitted with LED lighting throughout including motion sensors to reduce energy wastage. We are heated through the same biomass burner which is fired through factory waste. The office has paper and plastic recycling facilities for office recycling. For this we use a local recycling firm who even collect waste with pedal power! The office is moving towards increased use of electronic files in order to reduce paper usage.
Sustainable Construction on Site:
Sustainable Packaging; Our wooden pallets used for safe transportation of the panels are re-usable / recyclable. The cardboard edge protection, clear wrap and polyester strapping can all be put through general recycling schemes to ensure nothing goes to landfill.
Each project is carefully planned and each panel counted and provisioned for with our estimating drawings. This ensures a “best fit” with nominal site cutting and minimal site waste. We are also able to receive waste material and off cuts from site for recycling. The steel is stripped and segregated into the steel recycling skip ready to be sent away to produce new steel. The returned wood from the panel is also recycled.
Transportation; We partner with hauliers using fuel / environmentally efficient and dedicated vehicles for full loads. Small loads are sent via pallet services to ensure least environmental impact.
Between the forest and the final consumer, forest products may undergo many stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. FSC Chain of Custody certification verifies that FSC certified material is identified or kept segregated from non-certified or non-controlled material through this chain. Bathgate Flooring were awarded full Forest Stewardship Council® chain of custody and our Certificate No. INT-COC-002106. We only purchase particle board from FSC® certified sources within the EU and are able to pass this custody chain onto the end user.
