COMET Building at
University of South Wales
Sustainable, Phased Access Flooring Package for Commercial Academic Space
Bathgate Flooring was appointed by BAM Construction Ltd to supply and install raised access flooring for the COMET project at the University of South Wales in Pontypridd. This large-scale package was successfully delivered to provide modern commercial office space.
The Project
The scope of works comprised approximately 8,500 m² of raised access flooring distributed across five floors. To meet the project’s sustainability and performance requirements, the majority of the floorplate utilised our BGM600G panel, a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) PSA MOB Medium Grade system.
For the server rooms, we installed the BEH600V system, a PSA MOB Heavy Grade panel featuring a factory-bonded vinyl finish. Prior to panel installation, our team completed comprehensive slab dustproofing. The installation also required bespoke step and ramp details to navigate level changes, alongside acoustic enhancements applied directly to the pedestal bases.
Programme & Delivery
The project was sequenced across multiple active workfaces to suit the main contractor’s stringent programme requirements. By progressing across large open-plan areas and maintaining close site coordination with BAM Construction and follow-on trades, Bathgate Flooring facilitated a successful phased handover of the floors. Stringent on-site quality assurance was maintained throughout the build. This included T42 pedestal adhesive tests, with all tested areas passing successfully.
The completed installation, handed over on schedule in June 2026, highlights Bathgate’s ability to deliver technically coordinated raised access flooring packages across large commercial floorplates.
