Our Decade-Long Journey to Zero Landfill
Stepping Into a Greener Future: The BGM600G Low Carbon Green Panel
Every single component matters when you’re building a more sustainable environment, right down to the floor beneath your feet. For organisations looking to lower their carbon impact without compromising on structural integrity, we’ve created a whole new system for Raised Access Flooring.
We’re going to do a deep dive into our Low Carbon Green Panel, and how we at Bathgate Flooring are setting a new standard for sustainability in the construction industry.
What is the BGM600G Green Panel?
Commonly referred to as the Low Carbon Green Panel, this is our lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) raised access flooring option. Designed with office environments in mind, it delivers robust performance, with the strength and durability of all products Bathgate Flooring is known for. All the while dramatically reducing your environmental footprint.
Key Technical Highlight: It features our lowest-ever embodied carbon content, boasting an incredible 83.01% recycled content by volume.
Find out all of the key features of the BGM600G here.
The BGM600G isn’t just Green in Name
- Engineered Timber Core: Our chipboard cores are crafted from 45% pre-consumer recycled timber, and 40% post-consumer recycled material. With an additional 15% forest bi-product.
- Sustainable Steel Encapsulation: The steel is sourced from Tier One producing mills which utilise Electric Arc Furnaces, which allows for up to 80% recycled steel content. No fossil fuels are used.
- Recycled Steel Pedestals: The standard steel pedestals supporting the system are manufactured using up to 95% recycled steel.
- Zero-VOC Adhesives: Neither the manufacturing nor the installation process utilises volatile organic (VOCs) in the adhesives.
Bathgate Flooring’s Decade of Carbon Reduction
We’re exceptionally proud of the BGM600G Green Panel, and all of the innovation, careful sourcing, and technological engineering that has gone into its manufacturing, but we’re not just focused on a single sustainable product. Our entire ethos is geared towards a business target of becoming Carbon Neutral.
Here is how we actively shrink our footprint daily:
- Zero to Landfill Since 2014: Extracted wood dust from the production process is repurposed in an on-site biomass burner to heat the manufacturing facility, while wood offcuts are recycled and saved from landfills.
- All Waste Metal is separated and returned for reuse. Packaging materials like wood pallets, cardboard tubes, and plastic wrapping are carefully managed by a waste carrier with a 100% recycling rate.
- Solar Panel Integration: Between April 2024 and May 2026, Bathgate Flooring installed 210 Solar PV panels, successfully saving 30,000kg of CO2 emissions.
- Smart Lighting & Insulation: Factory lighting has been universally updated to low-energy LEDs with movement sensors, and improved factory insulation reduces overall energy consumption. Not to mention improving employee comfort!
- Efficient Transport: Through partnerships with FORS Silver transport companies, deliveries are made directly to sites using low-emission vehicles.
